Child Safety Standards
Last updated: April 2025
idle has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) in any form. This page describes our standards, the safeguards we have in place, and how to report concerns.
Our Position
We prohibit any use of idle to facilitate, promote, or engage in the sexual exploitation or abuse of children. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Sharing, soliciting, or distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
- Grooming or solicitation of minors for sexual purposes.
- Sextortion or any coercive behavior directed at minors.
- Sex trafficking or commercial sexual exploitation involving minors.
- Any other conduct that sexually exploits or endangers children.
About idle
idle is a private messaging app for close friends. The app does not host user-generated content such as public feeds, profiles, forums, or file-sharing features. All messages and voice memos are end-to-end encrypted and automatically disappear after 23 hours.
Age Requirement
You must be at least 13 years old to use idle. Users under 18 must have parental or guardian consent. We enforce this requirement at sign-up.
Safeguards
- No public content. idle has no public feeds, discovery features, or open groups. Users can only connect with people they already know.
- No media storage. We do not store user-uploaded images or videos on our servers. Media is transmitted directly between users and is not retained.
- Ephemeral messages. All messages automatically expire after 23 hours, limiting the potential for content distribution.
- Limited social graph.idle is designed for small, trusted circles — not mass communication or public broadcast.
Enforcement
If we become aware of CSAE activity on idle, we will:
- Immediately terminate the offending account and preserve any available evidence.
- Report the activity to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) via the CyberTipline, as required by U.S. law.
- Cooperate fully with law enforcement investigations.
- Take any additional steps necessary to protect affected minors.
How to Report
If you believe a user is engaging in CSAE or if you encounter any content that exploits children, please report it immediately:
- Email: safety@beidle.app
- NCMEC CyberTipline: report.cybertip.org
Reports involving child safety are treated with the highest priority. We review and respond to these reports as quickly as possible.
